The boats at Aker harbour
My first landscape painting can finally be considered finished! As I said, it is the first real landscape painting I have done. Of course I have done sketches of landscapes before, but I never really got into the whole landscape painting thing.. well, now I did. I decided it was about time to broaden my horizon. I just never had an occation to do one before. I think one of the most important things is to keep challenging oneself to do things one has never done before, and the challenge is what keeps painting being exciting too! Why paint the same old thing a million times, if one can try something new? So, I hope my landscape efforts will pay off in my figure paintings as well. And more landscape will come, when I get around to it. I promise.

i hope you don't mind me giving a little critique as a comment - i'm too poor for premium membership!

i think your colours are beautiful - the sea is spot on too! the only thing that gets to me a little is the sky - more specifically the clouds...

..are they too in focus? too thin/transparent like mist somehow the perspective doesn't seem quite right with them either - it could be that there is as much detail in the far distant clouds as there is in the fore clouds and that somehow "flattens" the sky as though it was a mural hanging behing the scene.

I wouldn't say that there was much to do to this at all...

..have fun!

The reason I did it this way was because the rain clouds closer in the picture are less defined because they do not have sun shine on them, and they are heavier than the other clouds. While the clouds in the background are more defined because they get light on them, defining them. I admit the clouds furthest away are lighter than they would have been in real life. But this is a painting, and that is an effect. If I wanted everything to look exactly as it does in real life, I'd become a photographer.

Thank you for your comment. I am glad you liked it.

It's excellent Ingrid.

I particularly enjoy the reflections and movement of the water. Great job.

I've been doing a lot of abstract painting lately. Extremely abstract. No brush, no paint, no canvas. I just think about it.

Nope, you would have giving up painting (with light or paint) all together. "Real life" can not be truly reproduced, and that's why we call it real life.

- I felt like being annoying, sorry...

Som nevnt ut før, et udmerket stykke arbeid generelt sett:);per du finner en lykkelig kjø;per en vakker dag.
Hils pus!

Well, you're right on that part =P Besides, why would one need to depict anything if you could just sit down and look at nature instead? I mean, if you did not want it to look different =P
